Manual Therapy refers to the use of “hands on” treatment.
This can involve joint mobilisation or manipulation to help stiffness and pain in joints, or soft-tissue treatment aimed at muscles, such as massage, trigger point therapy, deep tissue massage, or dry needling. Both can also address nerve pain such as sciatica.
All of these techniques work to release any tension in the muscles and joints relevant to causing your problem.
Manual therapy has been proven to be effective in types of lower back pain, neck pain, neck stiffness, and other muscle and joint pain.
We usually combine manual therapy with exercises for you to do at home or in the gym to make the improvement last.
At our clinic in Ashford, Co. Wicklow, we always do an assessment of the area will identify the exact source of pain, from which your physio can choose the correct manual therapy technique to help you feel better quickly.
Our physiotherapists are highly trained to Masters level and have extensive experience in manual therapy.
Please note that not every condition or individual is appropriate for manual therapy. Also if you would rather a “hands off” approach please let your physiotherapist know.
